PAK skipper Fatima Sana unimpressed with team’s discipline, reports of rift with Aliya Riaz emerge

IT has just become a norm; Pakistan team crashes out of the World Cups, and the blame game, and the in-fighting starts. That also gives rise to reports of rift in the side. This Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 is no different, where the Fatima Sana-led side was ousted without winning a single battle.. and now disciplinary issues in the team have surfaced.

Another World Cup, another rift in Pakistan

As per PTI, coach Wahab Riaz and skipper Fatima Sana did not see eye to eye over selection matters. To make matters worse, another report claimed that Sana objected to player Aliya Riaz’s husband staying in the team hotel, eventually being asked to vacate. “It was on Sana’s insistence that Ali Younis was asked to vacate the room. Then, on the day before the game against Bangladesh, Aaliya and her husband went out for sightseeing when there was a team practice scheduled,” the agency quoted a report.

Furthermore, Fatima Sana wanted Aliya out of the team from the Bangladesh match, but Wahab had different views. Events took a major turn when the skipper reportedly blamed the coach, in front of the entire team, for not enforcing disciplinary protocols. All this does not end here. The coaching and the support staff also seems to be unhappy with the team, for not executing the plans on the field.

The Pakistani side has been poor in this T20 World Cup as well, and went on to lose the AUS encounter by 113 runs, only showing the bridge between the two sides. After the match, Fatima reflected upon the team performance, and was not too chuffed about it. She had gone on to say, “I think we just played our worst cricket in this game, and as a whole team we need to accept that. We need to go back, reflect, and improve ourselves.”

If one looks at their record in this edition, they lost their opening encounter by 64 runs to India. Then South Africa won by two wickets in their next match. Bangladesh beat them by 23 runs despite scoring only 123 runs, while against Australia, they lost by 113. Now on June 27, they play their last match against the Netherlands, in Bristol.
