Titans shouldn’t neglect swing tackle before training camp

The Tennessee Titans are on summer break before reporting to training camp on July 23rd (rookies) and July 28th (veterans). Now would be the time for general manager Mike Borgonzi to start weighing potential roster additions. The Titans made a few low-key moves at mandatory minicamp.

One position that appears extremely concerning is the swing tackle spot. JC Latham and Dan Moore are the starters. Competing for positioning behind them are Brandon Crenshaw-Dickson, Austin Deculus, Ryan Hayes, and Aamil Wagner. The Titans shouldn’t have much faith in any of those options if Latham or Moore got hurt.

Both Latham and Moore suffered injuries during the 2025 season. Swing tackle Oli Udoh was a useful reserve. Udoh signed with the Arizona Cardinals in free agency, and the Titans got worse at his spot.

Deculus was the veteran replacement in free agency, but he was truly horrible for the Los Angeles Chargers last season. Pro Football Focus credited him with allowing seven sacks and 37 pressures on just 476 snaps at left tackle. Deculus was also whistled for seven penalties and scored a pass-blocking grade of 33.1. When you watched Justin Herbert under constant duress, he was largely to blame.

The Titans seemed to like Crenshaw-Dickson last offseason. They kept him on the initial 53-man roster as an undrafted free agent to prevent exposing him to waivers. He was getting first-team reps at minicamp with Latham sidelined, but seemed to struggle in his pass blocking sets.

Meanwhile Wagner is this year’s UDFA dart throw. He was a high-priced addition with some pedigree coming out of Notre Dame. Wagner played a lot of high-level college football and will possess an opportunity to compete with Deculus and Crenshaw-Dickson.

Some potential targets in free agency include former Titans first-round pick Jack Conklin, Cornelius Lucas, Jonah Williams, and Kendall Lamm.
