Fairport Village mayor race: Deputy mayor Heidi Woika leads over trustee Tracy Briggs in Democratic primary

FAIRPORT, N.Y. — The Village of Fairport will soon have a new mayor.

Two Democrats are looking to replace current Mayor Julie Domaratz, who is not seeking re-election. Deputy Mayor Heidi Woika, who has been in the role since January 2025, appears to be winning, beating out Tracy Briggs, a village board trustee and teacher.

Woika currently has 54.14% of votes, while Briggs has just 45.56% of votes

With no Republican nominee registered for the village mayor race, the mayor’s seat is essentially handed to tonight’s winner, expected to be Heidi Woika. News10NBC’s Tom Kowalski spoke with voters about what they want to see changed in the village.

“I voted for Tracy Briggs. Mainly because, you know, I spent a little time reading about what she is looking to support, a couple of new initiatives. I think also, it’s kind of nice to maybe have a good candidate that has, like, some fresh ideas for the village,” Joshua Fess said.

Fess is a lifelong Fairport resident. Now, he’s looking to change up leadership in the village, saying he wants to see more community input.

“I’m like one of the last streets on the main street here. And for some reason, the Main Street project that they’ve done, like mine was the only street in the whole street to not be included with that. Like even simple things like small, like new street signs and stop, you know, signs, stuff like that. So I think even just small things like that, to just get some input or information on maybe why some certain decisions are being made is always helpful for the whole community,” Fess said.

Others like Monique Hunter say they prefer someone with Woika’s experience.

“Heidi is fair and she is sensible. And she has good energy and she has her finger on the pulse of Fairport, she really knows what’s going on,” Hunter said. “Fairport can be divisive, and I’d like to see that change. So any initiatives to make that happen would be great.”

News10NBC reached out to Mayor Domaratz on why she’s not seeking re-election, providing the following statement:

“I did not run for office to be a “lifetime” politician. I wanted to make a difference in my community and feel like I have. It’s now time for the next generation of leaders and I feel confident in their abilities to lead and continue to make strides forward in our Village.”
