Sadie Sink may have said goodbye to Stranger Things, but she's not leaving Netflix behind.
The actress, who spent years playing Max Mayfield on the streaming giant's hit supernatural drama, is lending her voice to Unhinged, a new interactive horror experience arriving exclusively on Netflix on June 30. Sink stars alongside Zoë Kravitz and veteran voice actor Troy Baker in what Netflix describes as an immersive thriller that blends elements of gaming, television and film.
Developed by Netflix-owned Night School Studio, the team behind the acclaimed Oxenfree games, Unhinged puts players in the role of Ava, voiced by Kravitz. During a Category 5 hurricane, Ava becomes trapped inside her apartment building after a power outage. Her only connection to the outside world is her best friend Claire, voiced by Sink, who is trying to help her navigate the increasingly terrifying situation from across the street.
As Ava searches for a way out, she discovers she may not be alone in the building.
What makes Unhinged different from a traditional video game is its unusual use of a smartphone. Players scan a QR code from their TV screen and use their phone as both a controller and a flashlight. Calls and text messages from the game's characters come directly through the player's phone, creating the feeling that they're actively participating in the story rather than simply watching it unfold.
Netflix says players can choose between a Story Mode, which focuses on the narrative, or a Standard Mode that introduces timed challenges and the possibility of failure during key moments.
In addition to Kravitz and Sink, The Last of Us star Troy Baker voices Ben, the apartment building's superintendent. The project also features music from award-winning composer Jason Hill, whose credits include Mindhunter and Gone Girl.
The release comes as Sink continues to expand her career beyond Stranger Things. While fans are still preparing to say goodbye to the beloved Netflix series, they'll soon have another chance to hear the actress in a very different kind of suspense story.
Unhinged launches June 30 and will be available to Netflix subscribers at no additional cost.
