The University of West Florida head coach Phil Kraus has retired after eight seasons with the program, according to Night Swim Podcast. The program is set to begin its transition from Division II to Division I during the upcoming 2026-2027 season.
The school’s Athletic Director Dave Scott has emailed the team saying that Kraus will remain the team’s point of contact and that they will begin a search “immediately” for their next Head Swimming and Diving Coach. Scott also reassured athletes that all scholarships will be honored for the 2026-2027 season.

Kraus arrived in July 2018 and has led the West Florida women to the top of Division II. The women’s swim program captured the 2026 New South Championship team title with 1239 points, finishing over 300 points ahead of 2nd place Delta State. They went on to finish 4th at the 2026 Division II NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships with 298.5 points. Kraus earned NSISC Coach of the Year seven times in his career, winning the award every season from 2020-2026.
The women’s swim team is set to join the Atlantic Sun Conference (ASUN) this season, and they will not be eligible for NCAA postseason tournaments during the next three seasons, meaning for the swim and dive program, they will not be able to send athletes to the NCAA Championship meet. Although they cannot compete at the NCAA Championship meet, they are still eligible to compete for the ASUN conference title. Full NCAA postseason eligibility will begin once the transition process is complete in 2029.
Agata Naskret led the team with 56 individual points including NCAA Division II records in the 100 back (50.91) and 200 back (1:52.90). Both of those times would have made the 2026 NCAA cutline at the Division I level, although Naskret just finished her senior season. The team is also home to the Division II record in the 400 medley relay as Naskret, Alena Rozova, Livia Rodriguez, and Sofia Kendzio combined for a 3:35.21.
