AVRAK, a supergroup formed by Darkthrone vocalist Nocturno Culto, is creating major buzz as it gears up for something big this year.
The creative duo, composed of Anders Hegna of NØD, El Kayenne and Svidd Grevling alongside Culto, whose real name is Ted Skjellum, has hinted at releasing its first album.
During the vocalist's guest appearance on Dev Gohil's YouTube show, Skjellum shared what prompted him to create the band.
According to him, AVRAK, formed in 2025, was born out of his long-standing friendship with Hegna and their desire to collaborate.
"Actually, I've known this guy [Anders] for — I don't know — 12 years or something," he told Gohil as translated by Blabbermouth. "And I knew he was in other bands. And we talked about maybe we should do something once and try it out and see what it becomes."
Regarding their musical direction, he revealed that they have recorded their debut album, which will likely feature an unpredictable mix of rock and metal influences.
"On the album that we recorded in February, [Anders] has the kind of, let's say, a bit of a more rock guitar sound thing, and I have the more metal guitar sound thing, and they kind of blend together," he shared, adding, "The music is very... I mean, we play two different things almost all the time on this album, and it sounds really chaotic, but this is the hard part for us to be working with. To get this right, it takes a lot of time, and also our arrangements and small details."
View this post on InstagramAs for the album release, the metal veteran revealed launching it sometime this autumn.
The upcoming album is a major milestone for them as it represents the hard work they have "put into the project."
Prior to the release, AVRAK had its debut live performance in Porsgrunn, Norway, last April and was joined by the Kråbøl brothers: Terje Kråbøl on drums and Stian Kråbøl on bass.
"So, the goal for AVRAK is to play more live. I mean, we have a great band together," Skjellum added while discussing their plans aside from the album release.
With major plans ahead for the supergroup, Skjellum is still active with Darkthrone and the band released its latest studio album,Pre-Historic Metal, in May under Peaceville Records.
