GREECE, N.Y. — Amateur radio enthusiasts gathered in Greece for the 93rd Hamfest on Saturday.
Many radios were on display on tables throughout the event at Barnard Fire Field. It was an opportunity for amateur radio operators — or hams — to get together for a flea market, presentations and license exams.
The chair of Rochester Hamfest shared how he got into the hobby.
“In college, a friend of mine said, ‘You should try this ham radio thing.’ So, I got into ham radio in college, and it really stuck. I got a lot of my other friends to get licensed, and it’s fun to be a part of this community. I really enjoy organizing events like this that benefits everyone,” Tim Guyot said.
Guyot said last year, about 600 people visited Hamfest, and there may have been a little more than that this year.
