Michael Andrew was on deck, having swam his final race of the meet, when IU Director of Ops Van Mathias swam a 58.01 in the 100 Breast tonight, breaking Andrew’s 5-year-old American record of 58.14. Andrew, an Olympian in this event, gave props to Van Mathias, and also said he is now the one who will be chasing after the American record once again. Although the Pan Pacific Champion didn’t swim the 100 Breast at this meet, he did have promising results, finishing 2nd in the 50 fly (23.08), 50 free (21.78), and 50 breast (26.87), all season best swims. He also took 5th in the 50 back (25.18).
