The price has been a matter of debate among fans and analysts right from the start, and with the prices of games rising over the last few years, there are certainly worries that this could spell a new era for game prices.
While we wait for Trailer 3, and GTA 5 keeps us all busy, here's everything we know about how much GTA 6 could cost, and all the price analysis we can find.
GTA 6 price rumours explained: How much will GTA 6 cost?
Naturally, we won't actually know how much GTA 6 will cost until it's announced by Rockstar itself, but we expect it to cost around £70 / $80.
With the recent rise in game prices across all consoles, this price point has become the new standard for the biggest releases in gaming, such as Mario Kart World.
Given how poorly received this price increase has already been among players, we think it would be unlikely that another price increase would be implemented only a year later, even despite the sky-high GTA 6 budget.
That being said, considering the anticipation for GTA 6, if ever there was a game that could justify a higher price point and actually get away with it, this is probably the one.
That's especially true once you consider comments made by Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick at their Q2 2024 earnings call, suggesting that games should be priced individually according to "expected entertainment usage".
Zelnick explained that the pricing algorithm, as it were, "is the value of the expected entertainment usage, which is to say that the per-hour value times the number of expected hours plus the terminal value that's perceived by the customer in ownership if the title is actually owned, not, say, rented or subscribed to".
Zelnick continued, adding: "By that standard, our frontline prices are still very, very low, because we offer many hours of engagement."
Before you get worried about Take-Two pricing GTA 6 based on a per-hour metric (which would be astronomical considering how many hours you can enjoy a GTA game), he does conclude that "it's our strategy here to deliver much more value than what we charge consumers".
He added: "There have been precious few price increases in the business. The price increase, for example, the $70 for certain frontline products was the first price increase in many years after many generations. So, again, I think we offer a terrific value to consumers."
So, yes, there is a chance that GTA 6 could cost $100 or more, as some people are worried about (and indeed, as some CEOs are reportedly hoping for according to IGN), but we think it's likely that Rockstar will settle on that £70 / $80 mark in the end.
