We're halfway through 2026, and the folks at Capcom likely can't quite believe the year they're having.
After several years in the wilderness, where nothing really seemed to work for the iconic company, a change in tact has resulted in it returning to its rightful place at the very pinnacle of gaming.
Led by Resident Evil Requiem, and with huge sales of older games, Capcom sold a mammoth 59.07 million games in the last business year ending March 2026.
This is up from 51.87m in the year prior, and represents the most games the company has sold in a financial year in its entire history, and a ninth consecutive year of record profits.
Resident Evil Requiem, which released at the tail end of that period in March, accounted for 6.91m of those sales, while 87.3% of sales came from older titles.
Excluding Requiem, the Resident Evil back catalogue accounted for 19.85m sales, while series like Street Fighter and Monster Hunter put up strong numbers too.
And perhaps buoyed by the recent Netflix series, Devil May Cry 5 saw record annual sales of 2.7m copies, taking it to a lifetime sales figure of 12.9m.
With Devil May Cry 5: Devil Hunter Edition releasing on the Switch 2, that number could be set to hit new highs in the next year, and fans will be hoping that Capcom finally takes the hint and puts out Devil May Cry 6.
For the business year ending March 2027, Capcom is expecting to further increase its sales by 10% to 65m, and there's no reason why they couldn't.
As well as the continued success of Resident Evil Requiem, April's Pragmata has sold well since release, and we still have titles like Onimusha: Way of the Sword and Mega Man: Dual Override to look forward to later in the year.
