ROCHESTER, N.Y. — News10NBC is keeping an eye on possible wind damage on Thursday, with winds forecasted to reach 40 to 50 miles per hour. We’ve issued a Yellow Alert, and much of the region is under a high wind warning through Thursday evening.
Our crew saw a tree that had fallen onto a car in a backyard on Benton Street, off South Clinton Avenue. While gusts are only around 20 miles per hour this morning, that’s enough to knock over some trees with shallower roots. In addition, some downpours overnight saturated the ground in some areas, making it easier for trees to fall. Our crew will continue to monitor wind damage throughout the day.
Tracking power outages
Thursday’s strong winds could lead to widespread power outages. So far, 16 RG&E customers are without power in Monroe County. You can see the latest outage numbers here for RG&E, here for NYSEG, and here for National Grid.
