BROCKPORT, N.Y. — The Federal Aviation Administration honored three local airplane pilots on Tuesday for maintaining safe flight operations for 50 years.
They were honored with the “Wright Brothers Master Pilot Award” at a ceremony in Brockport. The winners all had the same message: teaching the next generation about the joys of aviation is one of the most rewarding things they’ve ever done.
“As soon as the wheels come off the ground, you see that smile go from ear to ear,” said Norm Isler, one of the award recipients. “I always tell them, if you’re nervous, I can have you back on the ground in four minutes. I’ve never had one say turn around and go back. They all want to go for the ride.”
The award, named after the American aviation pioneers Wilbur and Orville Wright, is the highest civilian honor the FAA can award.
