The ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 is already underway in England and Wales. The tournament has entered its 10th edition as the competition returns to England, where the inaugural edition of the T20 World Cup was held in 2009. In this edition, a total of twelve teams are competing, being divided into two groups in 33 matches across seven venues in England.
On Wednesday, the most successful side in Women’s cricket, the Australia Women’s National Cricket Team, are up against the Bangladesh Women’s National Cricket Team in the Group A fixture. This is match no.9 of the T20 World Cup, which is being played at Headingly, Leeds. During the match, two Australian cricketers missed out due to injuries.
Australia captain Sophie Molineux informed during the toss that Phoebe Litchfield and Ash Gardner are out, with Grace Harris and Megan Schutt replacing them. The two cricketers were out due to their respective injuries. Litchfield had a new quad injury, and Ash Gardner had sprained her ankle. However, it was informed that the latter will be available for the next match, but Litchfield will miss some matches.
During the toss, Sophie Molineux said, "We'll have a bowl. Just having a look at the pitch, little bit soft on top. Hopefully we'll get the best of it with our seamers. Outfield looks a lot faster. Beautiful ground, never been here before."
"Two changes, Phoebe Litchfield and Ash Gardner are out, and Grace Harris and Megan Schutt are in. Just a couple of injuries. So yeah, Phoebe’s got a new quad injury. She'll be out until hopefully the India match. Poor Ash had a bit of a fall, the old girl. Sprained ankle, will be fine for the next game."
Australia wins the toss and opts to bowl first
Sophie, after winning the toss, opted to bowl first. They completely outplayed their opponent, South Africa, in their opening game, winning the game by 65 runs. The Aussies will be looking to dominate this game against Bangladesh, and not just secure a win but make a statement victory and increase their NRR.
On the other hand, the Bangladesh captain Nigar Sultana said, "We really wanted to bat first because we really wanted to give our batting unit the freedom that they can play with freedom and put some runs on the board. (On facing Australia despite a difficult record against them) I think everyone has an equal opportunity here."
"I guess what’s important is how we actually go through this match. It’s all about mindset definitely. And we have that belief that if we can pull together, contribute ourselves in the middle, and execute our plans rightfully, I guess we have a chance."
