Patriots survey results: Fans prefer to keep Kayshon Boutte

The New England Patriots have a decision to make in their wide receiver room.

The additions of A.J. Brown and Romeo Doubs this offseason have dropped Kayshon Boutte down the pecking order. While the 24-year old has said all the right things this offseason, he was away from the team for the voluntary portion of the offseason and knows his best way to potentially cash in a contract year may be elsewhere.

That could lead to the Patriots trading away Boutte, and letting a group that consists of Mack Hollins, Kyle Williams, DeMario Douglas, and Efton Chism III rotate in with the top offseason additions.

Patriots fans, however, would prefer Boutte to stick around. In the results of the latest SB Nation Reacts survey, only 24% of participants thinks the team should trade the wide receiver.

    The comment section agreed.

Keep him. Get rid of Hollins and Douglas. Saves 8 mil in cap to use towards Gonzo’s contract and frees up space to give Kyle Williams and Chism more snaps. Brown, Doubs, Boutte, Williams, and Chism as a top 5 is fine. Henry, and hopefully Raridon, will be be getting plenty of targets as well

My hot take: I’d keep him over Williams and Douglas. He may be better than Doubs. Give him a moderate extension–and then make sure they use him, too.

My initial thought is no. Injuries happen, you may end up really needing him yet gave him up for peanuts. So in that regard I would hold off. Then there’s the other scenario of other teams having injuries and all of a sudden a pick that would have been a 5th becomes a 3rd or 4th. I believe the name Sanu rings out.

No. Boutte is a solid contested-catch guy who can go deep and Maye obviously trusts him. He can be a great complementary piece to Brown & Doubs and the Pats have him cheap for one more season. If he performs as well or better this season than he did last season, the Pats are likely to get a pretty decent 2028 comp pick for him if he walks in 2027.

No, Kayshon is an improving player.

All in all, this week’s survey results look as follows:

If the Patriots were to ultimately trade Boutte, 41% of voters would want a Day 3 pick in the 2027 draft in return. Meanwhile, 36% would want Boutte featured in a player-for-player swap — perhaps to help the Patriots at a position of need. Just 7% of participants would seek a 2028 Day 3 pick, even after the Patriots lost a pair of picks in that draft following the A.J. Brown trade,

The decision to trade Boutte or not will be one of the biggest New England has left to make this offseason. A move either way will be done with the goal of getting back to the Super Bowl in mind, where the Patriots are currently tied for the fourth highest odds on the FanDuel Sportsbook to win the AFC.
