ROCHESTER, N.Y. — People across Rochester have noticed something unusual at intersections: traffic lights not working properly.

News10NBC’s Adelisa Badzic drove around the east side of the city looking for answers. She specifically looked for the left traffic light being out at various intersections.

At the Clifford and Portland intersection, the red left light was out when Badzic first drove by. When she returned the next day, it was still out and the yellow light on the right side was also not working.

At the Durnan and Portland intersection, the right light was on but the left one was out. When the lights were red, both were on, so only the left green light was affected. There is no left turn at that intersection, which limits any issues.

News10NBC posted photos to its Facebook page asking people where else they had seen traffic lights out.

One viewer said to check out North Clinton and Avenue A. At that location, the lights were flashing and a new stop sign had been installed. The intersection was being treated as a two-way stop with Clinton Avenue going straight through with yellow flashing lights and Avenue A with red flashing lights.

Monroe County Department of Transportation manages and maintains over 800 traffic signals throughout the county. Officials said traffic signals go out from time to time, for no specific reason. Repairs/replacement usually happen within a few days of being reported

Monroe County DOT said residents can report outages by phone at 585-753-7750, email at [email protected] or on its website found here.
