Mohsin Naqvi-led Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has been doing something unexpected to reinforce the players’ contract system from the upcoming cycle. As soon as the present contracts expire, the board will hand over the new contracts to the players.
Traditionally, there are different grades for the players under the central contracts. The gradation of the players and some other details of their contracts were in the public domain. PCB is all set to change the tradition.
As per the latest updates, the contract between the player and the board will remain confidential, and nothing will be published in the public domain. Previously, cricket fans could easily know which player was contracted for which category.
From now on, all of this information will remain undercover. “Central Contracts: PCB document clearly states that they will not announce whether a player is in track A, or any other track,” Sohail Imran, a Geo TV network correspondent, claimed on ‘X’.
“In effect, that means the public cannot know whether a player is contracted as a Test specialist. a Test and ODI player, a white ball player, or a T20 specialist. The number of players contracted to these categories will also not be revealed,” he added.

— Sohail Imran (@sohailimrangeo) June 16, 2026PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi himself hinted at the changes
PCB chief himself hinted about some changes they are going to make. Mohsin Naqvi told the reporters that the selection of a player for the central contract will be based on the individual’s fitness and performance.
According to Naqvi, a player could only retain his contract if he proved himself through his performances and through his fitness standards. He also claimed that the majority of the contracts would be finalized by computer to end the debate over the categorization of cricketers.
“Earlier, there used to be a debate on central contracts over why someone got a B and why someone got a C. Now, 85% of the central contract has gone into the hands of the computer,” Mohsin Naqvi informed.
“The players' contracts would only be renewed if they come up to all required performance and fitness standards,” he added further.
Naqvi explains why they are considering the changes
In the recent past, the Pakistan national cricket team failed to produce any significant performances. Whether it was the Asia Cup or the T20 World Cup 2026, they went to play the tournaments with a lot of promises, but returned empty-handed. It repeated again and again. Even against Bangladesh, the team lacked performance.
Naqvi explained that they are bringing the changes in the central contract systems with an aim to improve the team’s performance. With an improvised system, he is hopeful about better performance from the cricketers in the future.
“It is absolutely our responsibility to improve cricket. Our cricket team’s performance is better in series, but in tournaments, our team collapses. Work is now being done on this,” PCB head said to the reporters during a press conference to explain their plan.
