A popular ice cream franchise will soon make its Illinois debut in Chicago’s suburbs.
Ohio-based ice cream franchise Handel’s Ice Cream signed a multi-unit agreement to open its first stores in Illinois.
Several locations are set to open around Chicago in the next year, including in Elgin, Geneva/St. Charles, and Algonquin, with the first location slated to open in the third quarter of 2027.
“To quote Frank Sinatra, Chicago is NOW our kind of town, too!” Handel’s announced in a Linkedin post.
Handel’s operates over 175 franchises across 20 states and was named “Best Ice Cream in the World” by National Geographic in 2012. It offers over 120 ice cream flavors, of which about 48 are available at a shop any given day.
The chain is known for making its ice cream fresh every day.
In 2025, Handel’s saw massive growth with 20 new locations, and 60 new units signed for the next year, including the Illinois locations.
