Tyra Banks has sued Netflix for defamation since the release of the streaming platform's Reality Check docuseries. The former America's Next Top Model host and judge claims the docuseries created a "false narrative," with former contestant Angelea Preston speaking out on the lawsuit.
According to Entertainment Weekly, Banks alleges that Netflix only used 16 minutes of her over three-hour interview for the series. Her complaint details that the streaming platform used "selective editing, deliberate omission, and surgical manipulation of continuous footage" to create a fabricated narrative about the host.
The report also details a portion of the filing against directors Mor Loushy and Daniel Sivan, and production company EverWonder Studio for withholding the full interview footage despite multiple requests. The footage, they claim, would reveal their intentions of having "misrepresented Ms. Banks and mislead viewers."
Since the news of the lawsuit, Preston exclusively spoke with Entertainment Weekly as Banks' claims closely mirror hers during her time on Cycle 17 of ANTM. Preston has previously reported that ANTM purposely edited her Cycle 17 win to crown Cycle 5's Lisa D'Amato once staff learned of her prior sex work history.
"Now you know how we feel. It’s kind of like a taste of your own medicine, in a way," said Preston.
The former model also adds that if Banks' claims are true, then she feels it's "karma" for the multiple reports by previous ANTM contestants. Many have called out the series for allegedly engaging in selective editing and situational manipulation.

“Tyra, you want Netflix to release the footage? Can you release the footage of me winning? If you win or settle with Netflix, can you give me my $100,000? You’ve got it now, because you’re a millionaire. Also, can I finally get my money? Because I have credit card debt, and I’m a single mother out here raising a little Black boy. Girl! Times are hard out here."
Now a news producer and journalist, Preston believes that many contestants have come forward with their stories due to having "no help" after appearing on the series. She claims that many "had to figure it the f--- out after" and many doors were closed for having participated.
Reality Check addressed multiple issues that arose during the series's production, like staff recording intimate moments, not stepping in during critical situations, and Banks' extreme makeovers that left models in tears. The suit also alleges that Banks took issue with how the series intentionally misrepresented her reaction to Cycle 2 Shandi Sullivan's allegations about her sexual encounter in Milan. Banks has yet to publicly comment on her lawsuit and the comments from Preston.
