The run out of Rohit Sharma in the India vs Afghanistan 1st ODI is still a fresh topic among cricket fans for discussion. Ahead of the second of the three-match series, former India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin raises the topic again.
During an online interaction with Vimal Kumar on YouTube, R Ashwin explains the basics of running between the wickets. He points out that it was not the first time that there was a miscommunication between Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill.
Ashwin mentions that it was a call from Rohit Sharma, who was on the receiving end. According to the basics of cricket, the batter on the non-striker end is about to run as soon as the batter on the other end shouts for a run. If there is a runout, then it is considered a mistake by the batter on the striking end.
While some of the cricket fans blame Shubman Gill for the runout of Rohit Sharma, Ashwin thinks in a different way, sticking to the basics of cricket. The former cricketer also says that at the junior level, coaches teach every aspirant about these basics. A run out because of miscommunication on the top level of the game, and that too between two seasoned campaigners, is not acceptable for Ravichandran Ashwin.
R Ashwin blames Shubman Gill for Rohit Sharma's runout
“I had seen that run-out live on broadcast, and I don't know when the audiences will realise that when you play in front of the wicket, whenever there is such a case, it is the call of the striker that the non-striker needs to uphold. It is really easy to debate. Gill denied the run, and this is also not the first run out between him and Rohit Sharma," R Ashwin said on his YouTube channel.
If the striker says yes to a run, there is no scene of saying no. All of these basics of running between the wickets are taught in childhood. All of these are basic things. Everyone makes mistakes. I am not saying it is the mistake of one or the other here, but the truth here is, Rohit was not at fault at all," he added.
R Ashwin’s massive prediction ahead of the India vs Afghanistan 2nd ODI
Ahead of the second ODI, which will be on June 17 at the Ekana Cricket Ground in Lucknow, the former cricketer predicts that it will be another easy win for India as the touring team does not have enough depth in their team.
Ashwin says that there are too many quality cricketers in the Indian line-up, but for Afghanistan, they have a very limited number of top-quality players, which makes a massive difference between the two sides. With the win in Dharamshala, India is leading the 3-match series by 1-0.
If they double their lead in Lucknow, then the third and final match of the contest will be a dead rubber. In the lead-up to the 2027 ODI World Cup, the Men in Blue will want to clinch all of the matches against Afghanistan.
