Matt Damon has revealed that he remains open to making more Bourne movies, even as the future of the spy franchise continues to be the subject of speculation.
The actor, who first played amnesiac assassin Jason Bourne in 2002's The Bourne Identity, was asked by Parade about the possibility of returning to the role – and suggested that conversations are never entirely off the table.
"We’re always looking to try to get another one of those because we loved it, everyone who worked on them," Damon said.
"So there’s always some attempt going on to write, to come up with a new story. So if you have anything, let us know."
Damon has played Bourne across four films: The Bourne Identity, The Bourne Supremacy, The Bourne Ultimatum and 2016's Jason Bourne, with Jeremy Renner having led 2012 spin-off The Bourne Legacy as a separate character, Aaron Cross.
Damon’s comments come after The Hollywood Reporter previously reported that the rights to the Jason Bourne franchise, along with the wider Robert Ludlum library, were being shopped around by WME on behalf of the late author's estate.
At the time, the report said the aim was to find a new home for the franchise and make Bourne a more regular presence on screen, though it was said to be too early to tell whether Damon would be involved in any new iteration.
Skydance, Apple and Netflix were among those said to have met with the estate, while Universal – the studio behind the previous Bourne films – was also reported to be a potential bidder.
The franchise's future has since taken another turn, with NBCUniversal later reported to have secured the Bourne and Treadstone rights again, paving the way for further projects based on Ludlum's spy stories.
Jason Bourne, the most recent big-screen entry, reunited Damon with director Paul Greengrass, who had previously helmed The Bourne Supremacy and The Bourne Ultimatum.
Whether any new film would continue Damon's story, recast the role or take the franchise in a different direction remains unclear – but it seems the actor himself is not ruling anything out.
For now, though, Bourne fans may need to start workshopping ideas...
