HONEOYE FALLS, N.Y. — Hundreds of people gathered at the Fireman’s Training Grounds on Saturday for the 20th annual Ali Gaiter Clam Bake, which raises money for Golisano Children’s Hospital.
News10NBC’s Declan Stablow was at the event. Attendees came to eat clams, listen to live music and honor families impacted by pediatric cancer.
Earlier in the day, a guest of honor parade featured children who were patients at the hospital and bereaved families. Team Ali Gaiter said the parade is one of the most important parts of the event.
Declan Stablow spoke with the family of Amanda Conrow, who passed away in 2015 at the age of 6.
“Events like this means so much to us. It’s been 11 years since Amanda has passed but events like this really do keep her memory alive and the memory of other children alive as we walk around here there are signs and posters, recognizing so many children who unfortunately lost their battles and it really just warms our hearts to know that people still remember her in a special way,” said Liz Conrow, mother of Amanda Conrow.
Going into this year, Team Ali Gaiter has raised $411,000 for Golisano Children’s Hospital. The event began 23 years ago but took a three-year hiatus due to COVID.
Organizers said the event has been growing tremendously. The clam bake ends at 8 p.m.
