The Denver Broncos should consider signing Cam Jordan to bolster the defensive line.
Denver’s defense has led the way as an elite unit for years.
Now, after losing John Franklin-Myers and potentially moving on from Jonathon Cooper, the Broncos could use Jordan’s ability up front.
Denver Broncos should sign Cam Jordan if the price is right
Where the Broncos have shone on defense the last few years is up front and in the defensive backfield. If they want to continue playing well up front, Cam Jordan could supplement a line full of good players.
Patrick Surtain anchors the DBs, with other playmakers Ja’Quan McMillian and Riley Moss back there as well. And their jobs are made easier by the defensive front which puts pressure on quarterbacks at a higher rate than any other team.
Zach Allen is an underrated interior defensive lineman, while Nik Bonitto has become a rising star on the outside.
And the last two years, Denver also had Franklin-Myers, who started 31 games and totaled 14.5 sacks over that timeframe. Franklin-Myers was allowed to walk in free agency and landed with the Tennessee Titans. All told, the Broncos set new team records for sacks in back-to-back years. To maintain that they need some dogs.
Meanwhile, the Broncos drafted lineman Tyler Onyedim with their highest selection in this year’s NFL Draft. He could and should provide depth, but isn’t likely to be ready to start full time this season. And then there’s Eyioma Uwazurike who’s entering his fourth year and has slowly become a contributor to the defense as a whole. Those two could split time, but it still seems unlikely they could replace JFM’s production.
Sean Payton’s former player a perfect replacement for Franklin-Myers
Enter Cam Jordan.
Jordan is still a free agent despite enjoying his best season with the Saints in five years.
In 2025, Jordan racked up 10.5 sacks, which was tied for 13th in the NFL last year.
Yes, he’s about to be 37 years old, but the veteran showed he still has a lot of gas in the tank last season. Not only that, Jordan was making plays in the backfield on running backs too. He totaled 15 tackles for a loss as well as 15 QB hits last year.
If he can play like that again in 2026, he’d not only replace JFM’s production, but exceed it.
On top of that, Jordan taking on more of the load would mean giving Uwazurike and Onyedim more time to develop.
Last year, Jordan’s cap hit was just under $10M. If the Broncos could get him for a little less than that, say $6M per year, he’d definitely be worth it.
Plus, the standout defensive end played for 11 years in New Orleans when Sean Payton was the head coach. Payton has brought over multiple former Saints players to the Broncos.
That includes Lil’Jordan Humphrey, Wil Lutz and Adam Trautman.
Could Cam Jordan be the latest former Saint to join the team?
Denver freed up cap space when they cut Dre Greenlaw on June 1, and the Broncos currently have $25.66M to spend. Last year, the Broncos signed J.K. Dobbins in mid-June, so there’s a precedent for them getting a veteran this late into the offseason.
