Caleb Goodavish, 12, Verona Swim Team (WI): Goodavish was on fire at the Jack Pettinger Invitational two weeks ago in Madison, setting six new personal best times while swimming the 400 IM for the first time in long course meters. The Verona Swim Team product had a series of massive time drops, highlighted by the 100 free, where he lowered his previous best of 57.35 to 55.54, moving up to 7th all-time in the boys’ 11-12 age group. He also moved up to 14th all-time in the 200 free (2:02.72), 32nd in the 50 free (25.83), 66th in both the 100 back (1:04.44) and 50 fly (28.11), 72nd in the 200 IM (2:20.76) and 81st in the 400 IM (5:04.18). This season, Goodavish ranks 1st in the 11-12 age group in the 50 free, 100 free, 200 free and 400 IM, and 2nd in the 100 back, 50 fly and 200 IM.
Dhriti Upadhyaya, 14, Katy Aquatic Team For Youth (GU): Upadhyaya set four personal best times at last weekend’s Bill Nixon Memorial meet in Arlington, highlighted by her swim in the 100 back. The 14-year-old Katy Aquatics product put up a time of 1:04.24, ranking her 3rd this season in the girls’ 13-14 age group. She narrowly lowered her previous best of 1:04.39, set in January, which had her ranked 5th in the country this season. Upadhyaya also set best times in the 50 free (27.83), 200 free (2:14.28) and 200 back (2:23.04).
Jackson Puchek, 14, Rockville Montgomery Swim Club (PV): Puchek went six-for-six in personal best times at the Maryland State LC Championships two weekends ago in Rockville, sweeping the breaststroke events in the boys’ 13-14 age group and adding a fourth win in the 400 IM. The Rockville Montgomery Swim Club member knocked nearly three seconds off his lifetime best in the 200 breast, clocking 2:27.46 to rank him 9th in the boys’ 13-14 age group this season. The 14-year-old had recently set his previous best time of 2:30.31 in mid-May at the Richmond Sectionals. He also moved to 20th this season in the 100 breast (1:09.45), 22nd in the 50 breast (31.89), and added best times in the 100 free (58.54), 200 free (2:08.28) and 400 IM (4:58.47).
Emma Fouke, 14, CSP Tideriders (OZ): Fouke won all seven events she contested at the Meet Me in St. Louis Invitational at the end of May, delivering a particularly impressive performance in the 200 IM. The CSP Tideriders product clocked 2:19.28 to knock 1.3 seconds off her previous best and rank 84th all-time in the girls’ 13-14 age group and 3rd this season. She also set PBs to rank 13th this season in the 100 free (58.88), 16th in the 400 IM (5:01.04), 17th in the 200 free (2:07.53) and 38th in the 200 fly (2:26.75).
Shelby Bigby, 12, First Colony Swim Team (GU): Representing the Gulf Swimming LSC at the Illinois-Indiana-Gulf Duel in the Pool two weeks ago, Bigby won three events and set three personal best times, climbing the seasonal rankings in the girls’ 11-12 age group. The First Colony Swim Team product cracked the top 100 all-time in one race, the 50 fly, where her time of 29.29 moves her to 87th all-time along with 3rd this season. She also moved to 3rd this season in the 11-12 age group in the 100 breast (1:17.10) and 5th in the 200 IM (2:29.40), while she clocked 1:07.60 in the 100 fly to narrowly miss the PB she set in May (1:07.40) that ranks 11th in the age group this season.
