ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Students at Edison Career and Technology High School unveiled a new mosaic honoring Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor.
The mosaic celebrates Sotomayor’s determination and public service. It will be displayed in the school’s Women’s Memorial Hall.
Last month, students worked with professional masons to create the tribute. They say the project taught them about hard work, both in building the mosaic and understanding what it takes to become a Supreme Court justice.
“It takes a lot to become a Supreme Court justice and the way she has moved up here, and her hard work is now something that I can look up to,” said senior Jaymayiah Ward.
Students also wrote letters to Justice Sotomayor to share the purpose and impact of their work. The project was supported by Unicon and the Bricklayers Union of Rochester.
