Welcome to Bridging the Gap, presented by Orange Partnership and airing on 97.9 The Hill and Chapelboro.com!
This month, enjoy a conversation with Anna Stormzand, Injury Prevention Coordinator at the UNC Health Trauma Program, and Jazmin Hernandez, graduating Senior at Orange High School.
June is National Gun Violence Awareness month, and an important time to focus on summer safety when it comes to firearms around the home. According to the Orange County Firearm Safety Team, “An estimated 82% of adolescent firearm suicides involve a gun belonging to a family member. Nearly a third of North Carolina middle and high school students reported it would take them less than an hour to get and be ready to fire a loaded gun without a parent or other adult’s permission.”
The time between Memorial Day and Labor Day is also the most dangerous time of year for young drivers, prompting the National Road Safety Foundation and other partners to offer information and important tips for all drivers with the 100 Safest Days of Summer campaign. Listen to the full conversation below with 97.9 The Hill’s Andrew Stuckey, Anna Stormzand, and Jazmin Hernandez as they discuss the impact of gun violence and tips for securing firearms around the home, as well as tips for driving safely this Summer.
