HENRIETTA, N.Y. — Monroe County Legislature Majority Leader Michael Yudelson is calling for an inspection of the PetSmart on Jefferson Road in Henrietta following the death of a Henrietta couple’s 2-year-old dog.
Yudelson says on Tuesday, Amanda Putnam and Geno Taccone brought their dog, Elphie, into PetSmart for a bathing and grooming appointment. Yudelson says less than 45 minutes after the appointment, the two were rushing Elphie to the emergency vet.
The dog died at the vet due to heat exhaustion and respiratory failure despite life-saving measures, Yudelson says.
“We don’t know for sure what happened when Elphie was left in the care of PetSmart that day,”said Legislator Yudelson in a press release. “No one is assigning blame at this point, but at a minimum, Geno and Amanda are owed an explanation. I plan to do everything within my power to help Amanda and Geno get answers.”
According to Yudelson, PetSmart has not offered to refund the couple for the grooming services.
News10NBC has reached out to PetSmart on Friday morning for more information and its response to Yudelson’s call for an inspection.
This is a developing story, and we are digging for more answers. It will be updated as we learn more.
