First Alert Weather: Tracking a cold front today, but should stay mainly dry (albeit breezy)

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – After yesterday’s numerous afternoon thunderstorms, we’re back to Green on the Threat Tracker and are in for a much calmer day. A cold front will be moving in from the west later this morning, but due to the timing, conditions won’t be primed for any severe weather. We may still see a weak thunderstorm or just a passing shower late this morning/afternoon, but anything impactful will stay east of our region.

It will also be cooler, drier, and breezy today as the cold front goes by. Still warm out… Highs in the low 80s. But as humidity decreases, that will feel much better than the mid 90s heat index we got yesterday. Dew points start in the mid 60s, but will drop to the mid/upper 50s this afternoon. A westerly breeze with gusts up to 30 MPH will build mid-morning and calm to 25 MPH this afternoon. Overall, not a bad day for outdoor plans, but not necessarily perfect.

Tomorrow, however, will be perfect. Behind the cold front comes high pressure, which will keep our skies clear and our air comfortable. Highs will be around 80 with low humidity and light winds. Nothing to complain about, certainly a fantastic day.

Unfortunately the great weather doesn’t last. Sunday another cold front will move through, and this time it will move through later in the day; this means conditions will be more favorable for undesirable weather. Right now we predict there will be rain and some storms Sunday afternoon and evening, so if you want to get outside plan to do it in the morning. But check back in for updates, as we’ll have finer details on the timing and intensity later today and tomorrow. We remain Green on the Threat Tracker but may need to issue a Yellow Alert.
