This Year’s July 4 Celebration in Hillsborough: ‘Together, We Are America’

Presented by the Town of Hillsborough in partnership with Orange County, this year’s local celebration of Independence Day has a more formal title in honor of the national “America 250” campaign: in Hillsborough, this year’s Fourth of July proudly proclaims “Together, We Are America.”

Happening in River Park in Hillsborough on July 4, attendees can expect an entire day of events and programming, kicking off with acoustic music and the Apple Chill Cloggers in the park at 10 a.m. and running all the way to the conclusion of the independence Day Laser Light Show by Solar Syndicate at 9:30 p.m.

Hillsborough Mayor Mark Bell spoke with 97.9 The Hill’s Andrew Stuckey about the event during a recent “Conversations With The Mayors” segment:

“We’re gonna celebrate our community, our history, our culture, and it’s a presentation of the town of Hillsborough in partnership with Orange County,” said Mayor Bell. “There’s free admission … There’s just going to be so many things to do, most of it towards mid-to-late afternoon and the evening. We wanted to avoid the heat in the middle of the day as much as possible.”

According to Mayor Bell, the 2026 iteration of Hillsborough’s July Fourth celebration features musicians, vendors, watermelon (Bell says, “you can’t have a July Fourth event without watermelon”), parades and a great deal more all in River Park, right behind the Farmer’s Market pavilion.

Attendees will also have the chance to contribute to the River Park ARTch, by stopping by the metal arch on the Churton Street side of River Park. Local artists will be on hand to guide folks through transforming the arch and becoming part of Hillsborough’s new public art installation.

A full schedule of events, shows, happenings and everything on the “Together, We Are America” docket has been posted by the Town of Hillsborough via the Orange County Arts Commission.

From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., there’s Acoustic Music in the Park, featuring the Apple Chill Cloggers with the Blue Star Travelers, both well-known local favorites, with a workshop and learning session at 2:15 p.m. for the clogging-curious.

Then, at 2:45 p.m., the stage is set for “Well, I declare!” with Dawn Landes featuring Mike Wiley, a live reading and exploration of the Declaration of Independence accompanied by original songs and narration.

At 4 p.m. things kick off properly with a barn-burning performance from the Tan and Sober Gentlemen‘s unique brand of fiddle-forward Appalachian flavor, leading right up to the “We The People Parade” at 4:45 p.m.

Following the parade, at 5:15 p.m.,Los Peligros Del Norte — a North Carolina–based norteño band — provides a rich, colorful soundtrack for folks to dance, followed immediately by back-to-back-to-back performances from local brass outfits, gospel groups and jazz.

The Second Line Stompers are up first, followed by a performance from New Creation Gospel, and the Triangle Jazz Orchestra takes the stage at 8:45 p.m. before the finale — a special Independence Day Laser Light Show by Solar Syndicate — begins at 9 p.m. to cap off the celebrations.
