For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Ivan Chang of Foster City, California will remain in state this fall, as he is headed to southern California’s Biola University to further his collegiate career. The San Mateo High School graduate is a sprint freestyle specialist that represents Burlingame Aquatics at the club level.

Chang broke 22 in the 50 free during his senior season and has now been under that barrier four times. He first dipped under 22 at prelims of the PAL Bay Division Championships with a 0.45 second best time (21.72) then swam a 21.76 in finals for 2nd overall. One week later at the CIF Central Coast Section Championships, Chang took another one-hundredth off (21.71) to finish in 20th. He also led off San Mateo’s 200 free relay with a 21.83 split.

At those same CIF Section Championships, Chang also swam the 100 free and posted a time of 46.90 during prelims to break 47 for the first time. He went on to takae 14th overall with a time of 47.09 in finals.

Most recently, Chang competed at the PC George Haines Invitational (LCM) and notched best times in the 50 free (25.00) and 50 fly (27.81).

    Best times:

    50 free: 21.71 100 free: 46.90 200 free: 1:46.19 100 fly: 54.02

Biola is a DII University in the Pacific Collegiate Swim Conference Championships, and were the back to back conference champions in 2023 and 2024. This past season, the men took 2nd at the PCSC Championships, matching their 2025 finish.

Yeo’s times are under what it took to earn a second swim at the 2026 meet, as times of 22.15/48.32/1:48.74 across the sprint free events scored. In comparison to Biola’s roster this past season, Chang would have ranked 7th in the 50 free, 6th in the 100 free, and 7th in the 200 free.

He”l join Jarrod Coy (fly/free), James Darcy (sprint free), Ryan Wells (sprint free), and Jaden Akpan (IM/free) in the Eagles’ class of 2030.
