Six people facing animal cruelty charges following separate investigations

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Lollypop Farm says six people are facing animal cruelty charges following separate investigations by the Humane Law Enforcement team.

Clifton Street, Rochester

Michelle Ayala is charged with torturing and injuring animals. Lollypop says investigators seized a dog that had significant injuries to both its front and rear legs, severe matting, and other signs of neglect.

Investigators say a veterinary examination found extensive tissue and bone loss in the dog’s legs caused by a biological tourniquet. Investigators believe the injuries were left untreated for a long time.

    Fulton Avenue, Rochester

Shantee Denise Rucks and Rafael Boston-Poppa are both charged with two counts of failure to provide proper sustenance.

Investigators say they found two severely emaciated puppies and a dead puppy at the home. The surviving puppies were seized and transported for emergency veterinary care, where investigators say a second puppy died due to its condition. Additional charges are pending the results of a necropsy, Lollypop says.

    Platten Road, Waterport

Christine, Michael, and Kaylee Klein are all charged with failure to provide proper sustenance.

Investigators say they got a report of a downed horse on the property. When they got there, investigators found a dead horse in a stall and found evidence consistent with severe emaciation.

After getting a search warrant, investigators say they transported the horse to Cornell University for a necropsy. The necropsy determined the horse died as a result of starvation and neglect.

People are asked to report any suspected cases of animal cruelty or neglect by calling the Human Law Enforcement line at (585) 223-6500.
