India’s indie gaming ecosystem is increasingly moving beyond experimentation and toward globally scalable game development. It is growing with a new generation of studios building products designed for international audiences across PC, console, and mobile platforms.
LVL Zero spotlights four startups from its inaugural cohort
Reflecting this evolution, LVL Zero, India’s first-of-its-kind gaming incubator backed by MIXI Global Investments, Nazara Technologies, and Chimera VC, is spotlighting four startups from its inaugural cohort that are building ambitious gameplay-first experiences rooted in systems design, scalability, player progression, and global market positioning.
Selected from over 240 applications, Impulse Mechanics, YK Game Studio, Xigma Games, and Arckon Arts represent a growing wave of Indian indie developers building commercially ambitious titles spanning sandbox simulation, satirical survival gameplay, real-time strategy, and large-scale multiplayer experiences.
The studios are part of LVL Zero’s structured 100-day execution-first incubation program, which combines ecosystem partnerships, mentorship, operational guidance, publishing readiness, and product support to help startups transition from prototypes into market-ready products.

Speaking about the studio’s approach, Siddharth Gupta, Founder, Impulse Mechanics, said, “A lot of building games focus heavily on construction itself, but we wanted to focus equally on what players are building for. At the core of our design philosophy, we believe games are supposed to be fun first, and we’re learning how to scale that into a globally market-ready experience.”
Another startup in the cohort, YK Game Studio, is building Chiklet’s Human Products, a satirical reverse-farming game where players control animals farming “human products” through absurd survival mechanics and comedic systems design.
Built for global sandbox and survival audiences, the studio believes unconventional concepts combined with strong gameplay loops can help Indian developers stand out internationally.
“Our focus is on building games with a strong ‘X-factor’ – concepts that instantly grab attention while still delivering deep and addictive gameplay systems,” said Yash Kaushik, Founder, YK Game Studio.
Meanwhile, Xigma Games, creators of the successful The Bonfire franchise with over 10 million downloads globally, is now developing Metal Haven, a sci-fi strategy title focused on base building, tactical combat, multiplayer alliances, and long-term progression systems.
The studio views the project as part of a broader ambition to prove that globally competitive live-service strategy games can emerge from India.
“For us, building globally from India means making games that can stand beside the best games in the market regardless of where the studio is based,” said Himanshu Manwani, Co-Founder, Xigma Games. “The quality, polish, gameplay depth, and live operations all have to compete at an international standard.”
Also part of the cohort is Arckon Arts, a family-run indie studio building Stickman Infinite Kingdom, an action-strategy RTS title blending cinematic stickman animation with tactical combat and narrative-driven gameplay.
Originally starting from animation and YouTube content creation, the studio has evolved toward building larger-scale gaming IP with global ambitions.
“Global distribution platforms are now open to everyone, and Indian indie studios finally have access to international publishers, console programs, and ecosystem support,” said Dinesh Kumar, Co-Founder, Arckon Arts. “There has never been a better time for Indian developers to build globally.”
A recurring trend across the cohort is the increasing use of modern development tools, accessible engines, AI-assisted workflows, and data-driven iteration models, allowing smaller teams to build increasingly sophisticated products without the infrastructure previously required for large-scale game development.
Several founders within the cohort highlighted how AI-assisted prototyping, balancing, production planning, analytics, and iteration workflows are helping indie teams accelerate development and compete more effectively in global markets.
Commenting on the larger ecosystem shift, Sagar Nair, Head of Incubation, LVL Zero, said, “What’s becoming increasingly clear is that Indian indie studios are no longer thinking small. These founders are building with global player expectations, scalable systems, and long-term product thinking from day one. Whether it’s sandbox simulation, strategy, live-service mechanics, or experimental gameplay loops, the ambition level has changed significantly.”
Through its ecosystem partners including Google Play, AppsFlyer, ID@Xbox, Gameramp, Lysto, Sentient, and others, LVL Zero is working to strengthen India’s emerging execution layer for game development by embedding publishing, growth, monetisation, backend, and market-readiness support directly into the startup journey.
As India’s gaming ecosystem matures, the rise of gameplay-first and globally scalable indie studios may mark a significant turning point for the country’s role within the global gaming industry, not just as a consumer market, but as a creator of internationally competitive gaming IP.
