We are selling 25 shares of Eaton at roughly $397. Following the trade, Jim Cramer’s Charitable Trust will own 225 shares of ETN, reducing its weight in the portfolio to 2.3% from 2.6%. We’re making our fourth sale this week to bring our cash position close to 12%, in preparation for what we expect will remain a volatile market ahead of the SpaceX IPO. On Monday, we trimmed our positions in Goldman Sachs and Qnity Electronics , and on Tuesday, we took a little off Arm Holdings to protect our big gains. Eaton has had a strong run this year, gaining about 26% as of Tuesday’s close. This trim isn’t a knock against the electrical equipment company, but rather recognition that semis and AI infrastructure stocks may be the most vulnerable to a short-term pullback as investors sell positions to free up billions of dollars in new stock supply. At the same time, Eaton’s quarters have been a little uneven lately. While the data center buildout has led to terrific orders and backlog growth, margin pressure tied to capacity expansions in the Electrical Americas segment has limited some of the earnings upside. As a result, we are also changing our rating to 2 from a buy-equivalent 1 and will wait for a more attractive price level to add to our position again. From this sale, we will realize a gain of about 70% on the stock purchased in December 2023. (Jim Cramer’s Charitable Trust is long ETN. See here for a full list of the stocks.)
