On the same day that the Rams got the news that Alaric Jackson was arrested on domestic violence charges and could miss significant time this season, another left tackle has hit the trade block. Should the Rams make a trade with the Kansas City Chiefs for Wanya Morris?
According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, Morris and the Chiefs have agreed to explore the trade market. The timing could be a coincidence, but could also speak to Kansas City’s willingness to get the word out that Morris is available right now.
Morris, a third-round pick out of Oklahoma in 2023, was replaced last year by first-round pick Josh Simmons. The Chiefs view Morris as a depth piece going into his contract year, which isn’t good for his upcoming free agency tour in 2027. If Kansas City can get an acceptable draft pick or player in return, it would make sense for the Chiefs to let Morris have his opportunity to show teams what he can do as a starter again.

Morris started 11 games in 2024 and received poor grades for his performance, hence the selection of Simmons after the season, despite a lot of hype around him going into the year. Morris was put on several “All-Breakout” team lists before 2024.
Morris was outstanding versus the Packers despite coming off the bench. PFF assigned him a pass protection grade of 73.4, as he was credited with allowing just one quarterback pressure. He appeared in 66 total offensive snaps in his first career start, surrendering just five pressures and zero sacks against a talented and deep Bills defensive front.
From there, Morris encountered some typical up-and-down rookie struggles. He allowed 10 pressures versus the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 16, but bounced back with arguably his best performance against the Cincinnati Bengals the following week, earning a season-high pass-pro grade of 74.9.
It would be easy to dismiss Morris as a possibility to insure against the loss of Jackson, but remember that the Rams traded for Kevin Dotson at a time when the Steelers had already replaced him too.
Morris is only 25 and the 6’6, 307 lb tackle had enough talent to once be picked as the blindside protector for Patrick Mahomes. With few options available, Wanya Morris could be the best of the rest.
