A jet from the San Diego-based USS Abraham Lincoln disabled a tanker that attempted to evade the U.S. blockade of Iranian ports, Central Command reported Monday.
After the Palau-flagged M/T Marivex failed to heed warnings, an F/A-18 Super Hornet “fired a precision munition into the ship’s engineering and steering spaces,” according to a statement on X.
“Marivex is no longer sailing to Iran,” CENTCOM said.
The action took place in the Gulf of Oman. It was the seventh ship disabled by U.S. forces since the blockade began on April 13.
CENTCOM said 134 ships have complied with the blockade and have been redirected.
The Lincoln is one of two aircraft carriers in the region as negotiations with Iran continue.
