Big 12 commissioner Brett Yormark has released a statement regarding Texas Tech quarterback Brendan Sorsby’s temporary injunction, which restricts the NCAA from keeping Sorsby sidelined. As a result, the former Cincinnati and Indiana quarterback — as it currently stands — will play college football in 2026.
Here’s Yormark’s statement in full:
“The ramifications of today’s ruling are significant and could have broad impacts across college athletics, creating great concern amongst our membership. I’ve been consulting with our key stakeholders and have scheduled meetings with our Conference ADs and Executive Board this week. We are also in touch with Charlie Baker and anticipate the NCAA to appeal the order in the next 24-48 hours. We will continue to monitor and evaluate the situation.”

— Nicole Auerbach (@NicoleAuerbach) June 8, 2026Sorsby will miss the first 2 games of the 2026 season per court order, a slap on the wrist for gambling on sports while being a member of the team the bets were placed on. Throughout all of sports history, doing what Sorsby did at Indiana and Cincinnati has resulted in a permanent ban from competition.
It’s been said before, but Monday’s injunction sets a scary precedent for the future of college sports, which is increasingly becoming a landscape without rules.
The NCAA officially filed its appeal to the case just before 6:30 p.m. ET on Monday.
