“Just a methodical night,” said the evening's winne. “We had a good car to start. It wasn’t perfect, but it really came to us just when we needed it. It was a track position day.”
The race transformed into a high-stakes duel on Lap 221. Standing between Newgarden and victory was an aggressive Christian Rasmussen, who led a race-high 38 passes and repeatedly lunged for the lead on restarts.

“Really strong fight with Christian,” Newgarden admitted. “It was a matter of who was going to get position on each other, and that was going to seal the deal.”
Once Newgarden broke Rasmussen's resistance, it was a matter of managing his mirrors. Marcus Ericsson mounted a late charge but crossed the finish line 0.6613 seconds short to secure a season-best second place.
“I thought we had it at some points, but Josef is the best in the business on these short ovals,” Ericsson conceded. Rasmussen capped off his standout evening in third.
While rain threw the field into a frenzy, Newgarden remained unflappable. The moment he seized control, he never let go – proving once again that this track is his personal playground.
