Winter Juniors qualifier Zoey Aydin has announced her verbal commitment* to swim at the University of Pennsylvania beginning in the fall of 2027. She publicized the news on SwimCloud, writing:
I am beyond excited to announce my verbal commitment to the admissions process at the University of Pennsylvania where I will be continuing my academic and athletic career! I want to thank my family, friends, and coaches for supporting me throughout this process, especially Coach Ryan and Coach Don for always pushing me. A huge thanks to Coach Mike and Coach Emma for giving me this incredible opportunity! GO QUAKERS!!
A rising senior at Northern Valley Regional High School in New Jersey, Aydin has been a member of the school’s varsity swimming team since her freshman year. She also trains year-round with Phoenix Aquatic Club, where she primarily specializes in sprint freestyle, breaststroke, butterfly, and IM.
Aydin was named to SwimSwam’s “Best of the Rest” category for uncommitted swimmers in the high school class of 2027 back in April. A sprint freestyle specialist for most of her career, she is coming off a 2025-26 short course season that saw her post some massive improvements in breaststroke, butterfly, and IM. Over the past 12 months, she has dropped over four seconds in the 200 breast, three seconds in the 100 fly and 200 IM, and two seconds in the 100 breast, while still shaving nearly a full second off her PB in the 50 free and a few tenths in the 100 free.
Aydin registered her current best time in the 50 free at Winter Juniors – East in December, her first year competing at the meet, where she placed 27th in the 50 free (23.12) and set then-PBs of 50.84 in the 100 free for 40th and 55.77 in the 100 fly for 67th, in addition to clocking 1:51.62 for 74th in the 200 free.
Aydin set the remainder of her PBs across various club meets in February and March, including both Speedo Sectionals – Ithaca and the TYR Senior Mets Winter Championships.
Her current PBs include:
50 Freestyle: 23.12 100 Freestyle: 50.00 200 Freestyle: 1:50.22 100 Breaststroke: 1:02.62 200 Breaststroke 2:16.93 100 Butterfly: 54.98 200 IM: 2:02.43A Division I program, Penn competes in the Ivy League, with the women’s team placing second out of eight teams at this past season’s conference championships. Aydin’s current lifetime bests in the 100 breast, 200 breast, and 100 free would have made the ‘B’ finals, while her times in the 100 fly, 200 free, and 200 IM would have been fast enough to crack the ‘C’ finals, and that’s with two full seasons of training to go before she swims at her first conference meet.
Aydin joins Tanja Amizic, Livia Cremer, Quinn Norlander, Brynn Lewis, Ginger Strickland, and Lori Jiang in committing to the Quakers’ class of 2031 so far.
*Note: A verbal commitment between an Ivy League coach and a prospective student-athlete is not an offer of admission, as only the Admission Office has that authority. The coach can only commit his or her support in the admission process. Ivy League Admission Offices do not issue “Likely Letters” before October 1 of the prospective student-athlete’s senior year of high school. The Likely Letter, while issued after an initial read of the student’s application, is not an offer of admission to the university.
