Ole Miss advances to College World Series behind back-to-back 8th inning jacks

Ole Miss will play in the College World Series for the 7th time in program history.

The Rebels, after downing Auburn 6-4 on Friday night, used back-to-back home runs in the 8th inning to stun the No. 4 Tigers on Saturday, 5-3.

After a slow start through the first 3 innings, Auburn finally got on the board with a single through the gap between first and second, which immediately scored Chris Rembert and later Ethin Bingaman as Ole Miss attempted to tag Terrell on the basepath.

The score remained 2-0 until the bottom of the 6th, when Judd Utermark’s (who else?) double scored Brayden Randle and Dom Decker, knotting the game at 2-all.

Utermark drew a walk in the 8th inning, putting him in position to score off Will Furniss’ go-ahead home run to right field.

A few pitches later, Clemson transfer Tristan Bissetta joined in on the fun, blasting his 23rd home run of the year to right field, extending the Rebels’ lead to 3. Bissetta is just one home run away from tying Tim Elko’s single-season home run record (24).

The Rebels will face the winner of North Carolina vs. USC, who are set to battle for a spot in the left side of the bracket Sunday evening.

    See ya in Omaha, Rebels.
