India National Cricket Team captain Shubman Gill carried forward his stunning IPL 2026 form into Test cricket as the youngster achieved a significant milestone on Day 1 of the ongoing one-off Test against the Afghanistan National Cricket Team on Saturday, June 6.
Gill recently led the Gujarat Titans to the IPL 2026 final, where they lost the trophy to RCB. But he was in sensational form, finishing the tournament as the second leading run scorer with 732 runs in 16 innings at an impressive average of 45.75 and a strike rate of over 163.

Honestly, the only thing that's been a little tricky is the switch from sleeping late at nights to waking up at the time, actually, that we were sleeping at. But I got a good couple of days of sleep, and I think everyone's pretty fresh and ready to go.”

The Indian captain said that the team wants to find the right combinations and improve as a batting group through this one-off Test against Afghanistan before the busy Test season ahead.
Gill signed off by saying, “Nine Test matches after this, we'll be playing two against Sri Lanka and five at home. So, we've got quite a few Test matches here at home and similar conditions, I would say, in Sri Lanka and in India. So just trying to get our combinations right and a lot of things as a batting group that we need to prove, especially here. So those are things that we are looking to.”
