Indian chief selector Ajit Agarkar has opened up on why Shreyas Iyer was picked as India's new T20I captain. Iyer was officially appointed India’s T20I captain on Saturday, June 6, replacing Suryakumar Yadav, who was dropped from the squad as well.
The Indian selection committee has picked the T20I squads for the upcoming tour of Ireland and England as well as for the Asian Games 2026, and Iyer will be in charge.

Ajit Agarkar said at the press conference: “We have seen what Shreyas Iyer has done in different seasons with different teams. He was close to getting to the WC squad as well.
