TORREY, N.Y. — Police say a person died in Yates County on State Route 54 after a dump truck crashed into a truck. The crash happened around 11:40 a.m. on Friday in the Town of Torrey, police reported.
New York State Police said an unloaded dump truck, driven by a 38-year-old Penn Yan man, was going east on State Route 54 when the driver braked quickly as an uninvolved car was attempting to turn left.
The uninvolved driver managed to avoid crashing with the dump truck; however, police say the dump truck crossed into the westbound lane, crashing into a Chevrolet Silverado.
The 59-year-old driver of the Chevrolet was killed in the crash, police added.
The driver of the dump truck was taken to Geneva General Hospital and later flown to Strong Memorial Hospital, having non-life-threatening injuries, according to police.
The investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing.
