Flight 1049, headed for Vancouver, departed O’Hare at 3:48 p.m. but later returned at 5:07 p.m., according to the flight-tracking website FlightAware.com. According to the airline, the pilots received an “engine indication” in the the fight deck shortly after takeoff.
Following standard procedures, the engine was shut down, and the aircraft returned to Chicago, where it landed safely.
“The aircraft, an Airbus A220, is designed to operate safely on a single engine in situations like this,” Air Canada stated.
All passengers deplaned safely, and the airline said it was working to get them to their final destination as quickly as possible.
