ROCHESTER, N.Y. – A Yellow Alert is posted for Saturday afternoon for the chance for a few gusty storms and small hail. Not everybody will see a thunderstorm on Saturday, but there are a lot of outdoor activities, and this is a “heads up” to keep an eye to the sky and keep the First Alert Weather app handy if you do have outdoor plans. An approaching cold front will spark scattered showers and a few isolated thunderstorms. The greatest risk of a stronger storm will likely be south of Rochester and into the Finger Lakes. The timing of storms is about 2PM – 6PM on Saturday. The First Alert Weather Team will provide updates as new data comes in.
Before any storms arrive, we’ll see a few showers to kick off Saturday morning. These should be exiting the area by 8 or 9AM, with mainly dry weather mid morning through mid afternoon, then the risk for a few storms will be going up. So, our Saturday will be far from a washout! And don’t go cancelling any plans. Just have a plan to head indoors if a storm does develop near you.
Our cold front will be long gone by Sunday, with morning clouds giving way to plenty of afternoon sun. Temperatures on Sunday will fall back into the mid 70s after flirting with 80 on Saturday.
It’ll be nice and comfortable to start next week, but the head and humidity will be building into next week. Temperatures will be climbing back through the 80s, with dew points in the 60s and even lower 70s, which will make it feel a bit uncomfortable. This will also tend to produce a more active weather pattern with an increased chance for rain and some storms next week. Stay tuned for specific timing as we get a little closer.
