Stranger Things favourite to star in drama series about all-consuming love triangle following mysterious Spider-Man role

While Sadie Sink's role in Spider-Man: Brand New Day is being kept firmly under wraps, there's no mystery surrounding her part in an upcoming love triangle drama from FX and A24.

The Marriage Plot, based on Jeffrey Eugenides's 2011 novel of the same name, stars the Stranger Things actor as one of three recent college graduates who find themselves embroiled in "an all-consuming love triangle as they reconcile their youthful romantic aspirations with looming adulthood and make life-altering choices about love and identity", as per the official logline.

In a statement, FX Entertainment president Gina Balian teased an "ambitious, character-driven" story while praising the "exceptional" talent both in front of and behind the camera.

Will Arbery, who worked on Succession and is also an acclaimed playwright, is writing the series. His 2019 play Heroes of the Fourth Turning was a finalist for the 2020 Pulitzer Prize for Drama.

The series will be directed by Hiro Murai, whose credits include Atlanta and Barry, as well as Widow's Bay, which is currently streaming on Apple TV+.

"We look forward to building on our partnerships with Will and Hiro, both of whom are extraordinary talents who we are proud to work with again," added Balian.

Sink, who is currently performing in Romeo & Juliet in the West End, is rumoured to be playing Jean Grey in the upcoming Spider-Man film. However, Marvel Studios is keeping schtum, and the film's promotional material has so far revealed little.

In an article from Chinese outlet Sohu, her character was described as: "A mysterious figure, whose true identity remains unknown, is also lurking in the shadows; her allegiance is uncertain."

So, we're still none the wiser.

Sink's other credits include Oscar-nominated drama The Whale, which earned Brendan Fraser the Academy Award for best actor, and Netflix's horror trilogy Fear Street, based on the books by R L Stine.
