The search for a missing 32-year-old woman who was last seen near a popular suburban mall came to an end this week when authorities pulled her body from a nearby pond, authorities said.
While searching for Shafia Murad, who was last seen around 1:30 p.m. on May 28 in the area of the Chicago Premium Outlets, police said they discovered a body in a pond near North Farnsworth Avenue and Corporate Boulevard.
Kane County Coroner’s Office confirmed the body was identified as Murad on Wednesday evening.
Officials said they initially searched the mall and surrounding area after Murad was reported missing, but later determined Murad had traveled in the area where the body was found.
An investigation remains ongoing.
