The Academy of Country Music is highlighting the power of stories and songs in new digital series Our Country.
The series, which launches Wednesday (June 3), will feature performances and stories from Kaitlin Butts, Wyatt Flores, Jo Dee Messina, Thelma & James, Jackson Dean and Craig Campbell as they share reflections on inspiration, identity and connection.
The series launches with Flores performing a rendition of The Fray’s “How to Save a Life.” Upcoming episodes will feature Butts performing a rendition of The SteelDrivers’ “If It Hadn’t Been for Love,” Messina performing Aerosmith’s “Dream On,” Thelma & James performing “You’re the One That I Want” from the movie Grease, Jackson Dean performing Uncle Lucius’ “Keep the Wolves Away” and Campbell performing Clint Black’s “Killin’ Time.”
“I feel like what we just want out of this life is connection,” Butts said in a trailer for the digital series. “I feel like music really provides that, especially with songwriting.”
Added Dean, “Music being the universal language that it is, everybody can understand emotion.”
In each episode of the Our Country series, the artist will offer an acoustic performance as well as personal reflections on the moments and music that have shaped shaped and influenced their lives and careers. New episodes will roll out each week through the ACM’s various digital channels, including TikTok, YouTube, Reels, Facebook Reels and Instagram.
According to the press release, the series celebrates “the music, memories and stories that define country music and creates a powerful musical tribute to America’s past, present and future.” It also notes the series “celebrates unity, heritage and the enduring role country music plays in telling America’s story.”
“Our Country is about more than about performance — it’s about connection,” ACM Head of Strategic Partnerships and Revenue Lauren Burchett said in a statement. “This series gives artists the space to share the songs and the stories that shaped them while reminding audiences of country music’s history and its unique ability to unite people through shared experiences, emotion and storytelling.”
