Minnesota has added Logan Redondo to its staff as an assistant coach for the upcoming 2026-2027 season, the school announced on Tuesday.
“We are so excited to welcome Logan back to Minnesota as a Coach of the Gophers! Our student athletes will benefit from his experiences leading the Nadadores and working with UVA. Logan has done an outstanding job everywhere he’s been, and we are looking forward to the positive impact he will have on Minnesota Swimming and Diving!” said Director of Swimming and Diving, Kelly Kremer.
Redondo returns to Minnesota after most recently spending the 2025-2026 season with Virginia as Director of Professional Performance and Data Analysis. While at Virginia, Redondo developed athlete performance profiling programs to help evaluate tactical performance, training adaptations, stroke efficiency, and race strategy in high-performance environments. He also supported both the collegiate and pro groups while assisting the coaching staff with recruiting evaluations and athlete performance projections. The Virginia women captured the 2026 NCAA Championship, their 6th-straight title while the men’s team finished 9th at 2026 NCAAs.
Prior to his time at Virginia, Redondo was head senior coach for Mission Viejo Nadadores in California for four years. During that time, his athletes swam to 10 wins at Junior Nationals. Redondo swam for Mission Viejo during his club career and swam at 2012 and 2016 US Olympic Trials. He was 18th in the 1500 free at 2016 US Olympic Trials.
He spent his collegiate career for Minnesota and graduated in 2017 with a bachelors in Kinesiology with an emphasis in Sport Psychology. He was 7th in the 1650 free at both the 2013 and 2014 Big Ten Championships.
The Minnesota women finished 6th out of 14 teams at the 2026 Big Ten Championships with 701 points, finishing just 67 points behind 5th place USC. The team sent two individual swimmers to the 2026 NCAA Championships. Junior Katie McCarthy scored in the 1650 free with an 11th place finish (16:03.41).
The men’s program was 8th out of nine teams at the 2026 Big Ten Championships with 644 points. The team sent Jacob Johnson to 2026 NCAAs on the swimming side and diver Drew Bennett. Johnson scored 15 individual points with a personal best 1:39.20 for 4th in the 200 fly. Johnson has already announced he will transfer to Georgia this fall. Johnson reunites with coach Mike Joyce who was head coach of the Minnesota men until he departed for Georgia in July 2025. The Minnesota women have a coaching change for this fall as Stacy Busak announced in March that she would depart the program saying it was “a personal decision.”
