US President Donald Trump isdemanding that Tehran place specific nuclear concessions in writing as part ofa preliminary agreement aimed at breaking the prolonged deadlock between the USand Iran, ABC News reported on Wednesday.
Citing US officials and anothersource familiar with the matter, the outlet noted that Iranian negotiators hadpreviously offered verbal assurances that Tehran would ultimately acceptcertain terms tied to its nuclear program, a commitment Trump currently viewsas “not strong enough.”
During testimony before theSenate Foreign Relations Committee on Tuesday, US Secretary of State MarcoRubio outlined elements of what the Trump administration expects from Iranbefore any further steps are taken.
“They have to commit to veryspecific negotiations on highly enriched — the disposition of the highlyenriched uranium that still is buried deep in a mountain somewhere,” Rubiostated. “They have to agree on negotiating severe and long-term limitationsand/or cancellation of enrichment activity in their country.”

The semi-official Iranian outletMehr News, however, previously indicated that Tehran is still reviewing aUS-drafted MoU aimed at ending the three-month-old war, as mistrust and risingtensions continue to slow communication between both sides, noting that noofficial response has yet been issued.
