The airline says none of the route cancellations are permanent. This is just a cost-saving measure as American and other airlines try to deal with rising fuel costs. Jet fuel costs have nearly doubled since the Iran conflict started. This results in a significant hit to an airline’s bottom line, as fuel costs typically account for a quarter of its operating expenses.
