GREECE, N.Y. — A 45-year-old man from Rochester is facing charges after Greece police say he tried to rob a woman Sunday in Greece.
Police say it happened at around 1:05 a.m. Officers say they responded to a business on West Ridge Road for a report of a robbery.
When police got there, they say they saw a bystander holding down the suspect, Brian Wheeler, on the ground.
After investigating, police say they learned that a woman was sitting in her car in the parking lot when Wheeler approached her, forced his way into the car and tried to take her stuff. They also say Wheeler had a “sharp-edged object” that caused minor injuries to the woman.
A person saw it happening and helped the victim escape and detained the suspect until officers got there, according to police.
Wheeler is charged with attempted robbery in the first degree and assault in the second degree. He was brought to the Monroe County Jail.
